Catherine’s musical career started in the Fairfield Quartet with whom she toured extensively in this country and abroad.  She held the position of principal viola with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra for ten years and, in that time, appeared frequently as soloist and chamber musician alongside many distinguished artists such as Yuri Bashmet, Ernst Kovacic, Joseph Swensen and Michael Collins. 

She also premiered and recorded Maxwell Davies’ Strathclyde Concerto no 5 with James Clark and, as part of the Marwood Ensemble, recorded under the Hyperion label.

She is a member of the Hebrides Ensemble who have released a CD of the music of Messiaen to much critical acclaim and have recently appeared at Wigmore Hall, Aldeburgh, St Magnus, City of London and Edinburgh Festivals.  In 2009 she was appointed principal viola in the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

Catherine teaches at St Mary's Music School in Edinburgh and examines for the Associated Board of Music.  

Catherine plays principal viola with the Ensemble.
