Alison Lawrance

Alison Lawrance was born in Leicestershire and went to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama to study with Stefan Popov. During her 5 years there she won various prizes & awards & was Principal Cellist of the London Soloists Chamber Orchestra before moving to join the Orchestra of Scottish Opera.

In 1993 Alison joined the Scottish Ensemble & thoroughly enjoys the variety of work that the Ensemble offers, especially playing chamber music with such wonderful musicians as Edgar Meyer & Alasdair Beatson.

She is a founder member of the Saltire Quartet, which specialises in promoting contemporary Scottish music.

Alison was a member of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra for 10 years & is now sub-principal cellist of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. She has been guest lead cellist of the English National Opera, Scottish Opera, BBCSSO, Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Northern Sinfonia. 

Alison plays principal cello with the Ensemble.
