Musical Hats
Early Years music project
An early years project focusing on music from around the world.
Creative Director, Dee Isaacs, is a world musician, composer and music educator who also runs the Music in the Community course at Edinburgh University. Dee, along with a team of world musicians, Scottish Ensemble musicians and young music educators, has created a series of exciting music CPD sessions for early years staff and in-school workshops with the children. These activities aim to enhance and develop the music-making already taking place in nurseries and to provide additional training for staff.
The workshops will take place in nurseries across Glasgow and East Ayrshire from October 2011. Each workshop will introduce children to a different string instrument - brought to life by a member of the Ensemble. Particpatory singing and rhythmic games will give the project an energetic and social focus.
At the end of the project final performances in Platform, Easterhouse with Dee, Gambian drummer Jahman Sillah, Salsa Celtica singer Dougie Hudson and the whole Scottish Ensemble will give students and teachers a dazzling day of songs, music and, of course, musical hats!
Wired
A project for secondary school students in Aberdeen running in parallel to the main season concerts.
Each main season concert in Aberdeen will be preceded by a focused workshop where students will discuss the history and origin of distinctive works to be performed, meet soloists performing in the concerts and composers commissioned by the Ensemble, explore composition techniques and playing styles and get to know what life as a professional musician is like.
Workshops are free but places are limited so booking is essential.
