Cellist Pieter Wispelwey made his debut with the Scottish Ensemble in a programme that ranged from the dark forests of Sibelius' Finland to the sparkling waters of Vivaldi’s Venice.
Enescu’s rarely heard Octet completed the programme, in a version for full string ensemble arranged by Artistic Director, Jonathan Morton.
Chamber Music VIII, a new work by the veteran Finnish composer Aulis Sallinen, was commissioned by the Ensemble together with Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Wurtemburg Chamber Orchestra and Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
